Project brief was to design an overall theme for a rum tasting kit. The idea behind it was to include a set of tasting rums, some chocolates to pair along with additional accoutrement to participate in the online rum tasting. The biggest draw was to be the box containing all the items. With a short amount of time we nailed it down to a few different concepts like these.
And ultimately landed on the idea of an inverted tiki bar. Where the walls of the box would actually be the interior of a tiki bar rather than the exterior. The decor of the "bar" was to include many of the clients favorite properties which included Disney, Star Wars and a few others. Using the site Boxup.com for their exceptional printing and easy template the walls were created all within photoshop from assets built within PS and Illustrator for the foundation.
Mockups of the final box art.
Along with the box, a concept revolving rum barrels (due to the included barrel mug as part of the box items) I created a motif of planked rum labels for the bottles and included extras.
I came up with a concept of using symbols for the rum bottles as signifiers rather than using text to keep within the mystique of the box. An included insert would decipher each symbol as to which bottle held what. There were actually two double sided inserts included to: welcome the guests; a checklist, a rum tasting list with notes and a cocktail recipe card provided by the guest speaker/bartender.
Each individual "Bullet Point" on the checklist was the corresponding sticker for the included items. One additional note was the chocolate icons created for easy identification while sipping each individual rum. Finally a block for each guest's individual notes was made under the bartender's initial notes.
Packaging was done at a local bar with provisions provided by the sponsoring rum company.
Overall the project was a huge success, considering what a large undertaking it was to finish within a week in order to comply for the clients event date along with various printers' requirements and shipping deadlines.
